First little harvest of Black Salsify

We always remembered black salsify from lunches in Germany but could never find it here – until we found seeds. We planted them at the end of June and just harvested the first black roots. Very yummy! Just peel like a carrot, cut in shorter pieces and steam until tender. We just enjoyed it with butter but it goes with many things (like gravy and pork roast). We’ll definitely grow more next year!
